Taha'a 2007

This island's claim to fame is that it is a major producer of vanilla beans.  Rather than take a land tour of Taha'a we opted for the motu, a private beach on a nearby island.  Snorleilng was nice and easy, barbeque luch was outstanding, and a wading bartender made sure nobody went thirsty.

Here is Regent's motu.  The water is clear warm and not too deep.  A great place for novice snorkelers.

Drinks were on the house at the motu.  The wading bartender could even make mixed drinks.

Churches are everywhere in French Polynesia.  Like most, this one in Taha'a is very picturesque.

Black pearl farming is a big business throughout the South Pacific.

This neat house in Taha'a looks like a bit of paradise.

Moorea 2007

If you could only visit one island in the South Pacific, Moorea would be a very good choice.  Two beautiful bays and striking mountain peaks make this island a continuous photo op.  In the morning we had a diving adventure as we donned helmets and descended sixteen feet beneath the surface and played with the stingrays and the fish.  In the afternoon we rented a car and drove around the island and stopped at the belvedere, a renowned mountain vista.

Although nervous beforehand, Pat quickly adapted to the underwater environment.

Up close and personal with a stingray.

Pat ducks behind some coral as this Javanese moray eel makes an appearance.

Vincent, from France, was our instructor and guide.

Pat uses the guide line to find her way back to the boat.

Nowhere on our trip did we see scenery quite like this.

This is the view from the tender docking area.

We met this beautiful local girl at the belvedere.

The M/S Paul Gauguin is seen in Cook's Bay in this view from the belvedere.

Papeete is only nine miles away and can be seen clearly from Moorea.
