WEB LOG 2000
December 30, 2000 (Lake Tahoe)

With the arrival of Andy and Deanna we had a full house.
The weather was so beautiful we decided to take a boat ride on the M. S. Dixie
II from Zephyr Cove to Emerald Bay. The scenery was spectacular.
December 28, 2000 (Lake Tahoe)
While Margaret, Mike and Monica headed for the slopes, Pat and
Lew took Johnny to a park in Tahoe City to look for a girl friend. He did
find a cute one, but decided that the slide was more fun.
December 27, 2000 (Squaw Valley)

We all went ice skating at the scene of the 1960 US Olympic
gold medal in hockey. Johnny, Margaret, Mike, Monica and Pat showed good
form, but Lew, perhaps inspired by the venue, tried a fancy maneuver and ended
up on the ice.
December 26, 2000 (Lake Tahoe)
Monica and Mike went to Virginia City to look for silver and
found fudge instead. Margaret and Johnny were scheduled to arrive at 5:30
but didn't get in until midnight. We killed time in Reno by going to see
Miss Congeniality at the Reno cineplex.
December 25 (Lake Tahoe)
Christmas
dinner at the condo featuring roast turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes
- the works. Watched either the Jeep Aloha Bowl or the Jeep Oahu Bowl, not
sure which. Maybe it was the Jeep Hula Bowl. We visited the chapel
where Kelly and Ross got married. It has been converted to a deli - the
California Connection.
December 24, 2000 (Lake Tahoe)
Monica, Mike, Pat and Lew were the first to arrive at the
lake. No snow, but beautiful as always. Traditional Christmas Eve
dinner at Steamers - pizza and beer.
December 23, 2000 (Yosemite)
After Lew got a hair styling at Twain Harte's Family Barber Shop
and visited the local Ace Hardware store, it was decided to get out of town
before the excitement got out of hand. We drove over to Yosemite to see
some incredible scenery.

December 22, 2000 (Twain Harte)
Our
annual visit with the Maxwell's is underway. The weather here is
unseasonably warm so we've played golf the last two days. One thing we've
learned here is that if you walk into a restaurant wearing a baseball cap, it's
bad form to take it off when you sit down to eat. To violate this rule is
to invite icy stares from the locals.
December 18, 2000 (Houston)
We're getting ready to close up the Houston apartment until
February. It's off to Twain Harte, Tahoe, and Honolulu. Ran across
these two pictures that show the more things change, the more they stay the
same.

December 2, 2000 (Bosnia)
Congratulations to Mark! He is now Major Mark
Solomons. These pictures show Mark being promoted by General Sharp.

November 26, 2000 (Houston)

Gone but not
forgotten. Here are some pictures of Johnny emerging from his
private "suite" at the St. James.
November 25, 2000 (Houston)
Johnny and Margaret returned to the East Coast after a nice
visit. As you can see from the picture, there was some discussion at the
airport about Johnny spending a few more weeks with his grandmother, but
Margaret wouldn't give in.
November 23, 2000
Thanksgiving at Dick and Jann's in Austin was great as
always.

November 20, 2000 (Houston)
After a weekend of rain, the weather improved on Monday, so
Johnny decided to take everyone to the zoo. His favorite animals were the
African goats (which appeared to be drugged, allowing kids to pester them
unmercifully).

November 19, 2000 (Houston)
The gang's all here. Johnny wanted to watch the Ohio
State - Michigan game so we hung around the house all day.

We're back from Carmel and awaiting the arrival of Margaret,
Johnny, Kelly, Ross, Monica and Mike, all of whom will be here for the
weekend. The Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur are truly spectacular. Click

November 5, 2000 (Houston)

Last weekend, we went to the 49th annual Houston Consular Ball.
It was a formal affair! Click on the thumbnail to see a full-size picture of Pat
in her ball gown and Lew in white tie and tails. The picture was taken in
front of our apartment.
Mark sent along some incredible PHOTOS OF THE USS COLE
. Click on the hyperlink to see them.

As Pat gets ready for a college sorority reunion in Alabama,
Lew prepares for four days of intense Talmud studies. The weekend of
November 18 will find Kelly, Ross, Monica, Mike, Margaret, and Johnny in
Houston. The girls all want to go to a Houston Aeros hockey game, but I'm
not sure they will be able to get tickets. If you've seen, or are thinking
of seeing Meet the Parents, go to the Movie Reviews section and read the
extended write-up.
October 24, 2000 (Houston)

Mark has encountered some Russians with badly faded
fatigues. Here he is showing them his sharp new ones. He is
finalizing the terms of a deal in which he will trade his fatigues for a large
number of lacquered boxes.
We went to see "Meet the Parents". Make sure
you read the review before you go.

Seems to be a good batch of movies at the 'plex these
days. See mini-reviews of Woman on Top and Best in Show.
October 12,2000 (Hollywood)
Ross' new career is working out well. He's gained a
little weight, but he's found the perfect answer to enjoying work. Click here
